The Society of Parents and Friends of Hearing Impaired Children was founded in 1992 in Krosno, by a group of parents of children with hearing defects who had no chance for rehabilitation and development in their home town nor in the neighbourhood. Most of the children suffer from hearing defects, and some of them even of multiple disabilities (hearing defect included). Others are autistic, aphasic, have dislalia, alalia, Down’s syndrome. All of them, no matter the disability or age, have to travel to Warsaw for diagnosis. The nearest cochlear implant centre is in Warsaw too.

Year in, year out, our Society has been developing its activities by way of implementing therapy and rehabilitation of hearing impaired children. We focus on constant therapy, organizing rehab periods and integration activities. In addition, we implemented support activities for parents of children with hearing defects. We try to share information about possibilities which nowadays medicine offers to hearing impaired children. We organize conferences and workshops for school and kindergarten teachers who guard our charges. Moreover, we cooperate with social, educational and cultural institutions which aim at thorough integration of our children with their hearing mates.

The mutual activities of parents, therapeutists, children and friends bring us closer to our main goal, i.e. development of communicational and linguistic skills of children as well as their integration with neighboring social environment, so they would become self-reliant adults.

Thanks to our efforts, over 90% of children who we take care of, attend public school classes in their home towns. They do not have to leave their homes for special boarding schools.
